Built in 1867 as the California Institution for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb and the Blind, the campus later became known as the California Institution for the Deaf and the Blind, then the California School for the Deaf. In 1980 the property was purchased by the University of California to be used as student housing and later was named Clark Kerr Campus.
